Staying fit amongst COVID lockdown
20 days into quarantine and already regretting the decision of buying that expensive fitness band? Are you that person who plans to do get fit in summer vacation? With lockdowns in effect, it is totally impossible to get out of home and stay fit. Or so you think. To your surprise, we have a lot in store which will help you stay fit and burn calories even in this period of quarantine. And it is NOT Netflix and chill (wink wink).

1. Target 1> Walk to achieve fitness
The best of all ways to refresh your mood and stay in shape is a walk. Being locked in your own home 24*7 can be enough of a task for anyone, add to it the lack of exercise, and, well, it will not do you much good either. Start your day with a morning walk and you will get through the day pretty easily. Not a morning person? An evening walk or a walk after dinner will provide you with the same benefits. A quick stroll will always help soothe your muscles and bring your mind at ease. Your fitness, in some way, is proportional to the steps of your walk. Not only physical fitness but also your mental health. Walking has proven to be a healthy stress buster for everyone. As you take steps further and further, your mind starts relaxing; what used to be a racing mind is now a calm one. As you start walking regularly, you will find yourself to be more focused and calmer than you usually are. So, taking a stroll every now and then in your own home is one health-friendly way to stay fit during this lockdown period.

2. Target 2> Minimum steps 6000
Once you are comfortable taking a leisurely stroll every now and then, it might be the right time to up your game. Now you are on your path to achieving that ideal version that you have always imagined for yourself. Start with a goal of 6000 steps per day. The fitness band you bought will not be much of regret now. And for the ones who do not have a step counting application as of yet, be traditional, i.e. go by the clock. Note the time you start and walk for an hour to achieve that goal of 6000 steps. Once you start getting comfortable with these many steps, increase them by 10-20%. The key is to not get comfortable and keep on working out.

3. Target 3> Household chores
As the lockdown period keeps on extending, most of us are facing a load of household chores on ourselves. This can, to your surprise, become less of pressure and more of a fitness trick! As you see yourself becoming the maid of your house, imagine your maid once and notice how flexible and fit she actually was. Her secret? It is quite simple actually. Your household chores helped her build that physique. Now is the time to turn the pages and do all that your maid did. This will not only put you on the path of becoming your ideal self but also make you productive. It is a proven theory that finishing your work by yourself gives you exemplary satisfaction and also makes you a good social figure. And who here does not want to be recognized by the society we live in? Washing your clothes by yourself, doing your own dishes, sweeping and mopping the floor in turns, cooking food in turns, all these activities not only make one active but also creative and productive.

4. Target 4> Simple exercises
While in quarantine, we all now have the time that we have always been depositing in our procrastination account. Start your exercise regime by simple and entertaining exercises to keep the fun going. For instance, the jumping jacks or the plank. In the first few days, you might feel that you are not quite hitting the bull’s eye. But remember how we teach our youngers that practice makes a man perfect? Right. This is the time to start practicing and getting our exercises right. And once you get the hang of it, you can up your game with some intermediate level exercises. You can also start by practicing Surya Namaskar while at home. This will definitely do the trick once you start picking the speed. Doing Surya Namaskar, or Sun Salvation, regularly will not just help you lose weight, but also bring down your blood sugar level, battle anxiety, and, best of all, provide you with glowing skin.

Target 5> Diet
As the market is being shut down and all home deliveries have taken the gulp of tears, let us try and make our digestive system feel healthy, just like nature right now.:) Now is the perfect time to stop being a glutton and start being calculative of your calorie intake. You can start by limiting the intake of deep-fried food items and then leveling up to switching them with veggies. Being locked up at home limits us from those indulge worthy snacks. This can be seen as an opportunity to limit our desires and quench our hunger by having something nutritious instead. Why be a nagger over snacks when you can become fitter by their lack?
